Ellis Lake - The Jewel of Marysville
Located in the heart of the city, lies Ellis Lake, the "jewel" of Marysville.
A shining landmark for the city of Marysville,
Ellis Lake was named after prominent
businessman, WT Ellis Jr. in 1939. This lake is known as a favorite of city
dwellers, small children and visitors to the city of Marysville. Friendly ducks and
geese will stop and take bread from you as fish practically leap onto the lines of
young anglers.
For many years, Ellis Lake has been described as a unique local attraction, hosting the
city's annual fishing derby, hydroplane and cardboard boat races. The most remarkable
centerpiece is the fountain, brought back to life through the concentrated efforts of
local area businessmen who devoted themselves to HELP (Help Ellis Lake Prosper).
Ellis Lake offers picnic benches for those taking a break from a busy day and for those
who desire a quiet evening by the lake. A pedestrian bridge crosses to a gazebo, located
on a small island on the lake. This gazebo is ideal for weddings, gatherings and outdoor
events. The 32 acre lake is surrounded by a paved sidewalk.
Whether you simply go for a walk, jog along the lake or feed the ducks, the
beauty of the lake and scenery surround you. In the recent "Best of Yuba-Sutter", Yuba-Sutter
residents voted it to be the best place to picnic, propose and take your kids.
