Sutter / Mountain Biking & Cycling
Cycle Around the Sutter Buttes is the perfect route to experience the Sutter Buttes: The World’s Smallest Mountain Range! When captured on an aerial photo, the Sutter Buttes appear as a circular array of eroded rocky pinnacles — the remains of an extinct volcano that erupted nearly 1.5 million years ago. Take a memorable and beautiful 40 mile ride around the area, which is almost completely flat with just a bit of climbing in the first 4 to 5 miles of the trek. On weekends, the Sutter Union High School parking lot (on the west side of Acacia Street) serves as a convenient spot to start. The ride can be done clockwise or counterclockwise, but there's no particular reason to choose either direction. Very scenic, quiet, and low traffic with the exception of the last few miles on Butte House Road. Additionally, every year in April there is Bike Around The Buttes; a bike event that raises money for diabetes.
