Are You Feeling “Festy?”

by Leah Champagne

It's officially festival season in Yuba Sutter! Temperatures are dropping and fall is in full swing up by the Sutter Buttes. As the outdoors become the best place in Northern California, our local festivals are gearing up for an event-studded October.

Join the locals this month in enjoying the Short Film Festival, the Harvest the Arts Festival, the Spooktacular River Run and a Dia de los Muertos celebration!

Short Film Festival

The Sutter Theater Center for the Arts is hosting the 2nd Annual Short Film Festival in Yuba City. Local and amateur filmmakers will come together to showcase their work in a night of comedy, drama and thrills.

Each film is just 12 minutes long for the perfect microdose of a cinematic experience. The festival is on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Yuba-Sutter Hoptober Festival

This small town take on the classic Oktoberfest is a great excuse to spend an adults-only weekend in Yuba Sutter. Hosted inside Bryant Field in Marysville, this festival features food, live music and, of course, local brews from Farmers Brewing Company.

There will be more than six unique beers on tap and a michelada station for someone who wants a brew-inspired cocktail. To add some extra fun to the festivities, patrons are encouraged to show up in their best farmer’s wear! So throw on your overalls and straw hat before you head over.

General admission is $45 and includes two drink tickets. VIP admission is $75 and includes access to the express entrance, express beverage lines, seating in the VIP area, a $15 food voucher and 2 beer tickets. Designated driver admission is $15.

Tickets will not be sold at the gate, so order yours now!

Harvest the Arts

Enjoy an evening of art and entertainment at the foot of the Buttes when you visit the Harvest the Arts Festival on Saturday, Oct. 15! Hosted by J. Heier Farms, this is an event you don’t want to miss. There will be local artists, food and craft vendors and wineries on site. Plus live music to keep the festival spirit alive.

The farm is family owned and operated, specializing in blackberries and walnuts. Pick up a jar of their jam to add a little sweetness to your bucolic festival day.

Spooktacular River Run

Join hundreds of local runners and families on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a Halloween run around the Feather River levees. There will be 5k and 10k races, a costume contest, free trick-or-treat bags for kids and plenty of prizes!

The event is hosted by Yuba Sutter United Way and all proceeds go to their organization to help people in the community.

Your race registration includes a chip timer and a free t-shirt (guaranteed through the end of early registration on Oct. 21). The registration fee is $25 for adults, $15 for students and kids run free! You can also register a team of four or more participants for just $20.

The 10k race starts at 9 a.m. and the 5k race at 9:30 a.m. There will be free continental breakfast available and prize announcements begin at 10:30 a.m. Day-of registration opens at 8 a.m. or you save money if you register online.
