Skip the Crowds: Plan Your Family Vacation in Yuba Sutter

by Leah Champagne

We’ve all done it. You spend tons of money to take the family to the latest and greatest amusement park or top-of-the-line adventure center, just to spend 90% of your time waiting in lines and standing in crowds. Sure, you get some thrills and might see some cool stuff, but you’re left wondering how much more you could’ve done with the 30-minute wait for every attraction.

Instead of following the masses, why not do something different for your family vacation? Drive up to Yuba Sutter to experience a small town summer full of family friendly activities, events, and experiences. (And the prices aren’t so bad, either.) Check out some of our favorite Yuba Sutter summer family events and attractions!

Summer Stroll Festival

June 18 is a great weekend to spend in Yuba Sutter because you can enjoy the Summer Stroll Festival! Hosted in Downtown Yuba City, stroll through the quaint brick facades and under the shady, breezy trees that line the Plumas Street Shopping District

This annual event is open from 3-9 p.m. and is free to the public. It features over 150 local vendors, plus local food and two kids zones where the little ones can play. The whole family can find something to love as you get to know local Yuba City and watch the sun set down the street.

Summer Stroll is a great way to connect with local business owners, artisans and artists. You’ll find all the local flair and flavor you’re looking for in the form of paintings, multimedia art, music, cuisine, clothing and more!

Yuba Sutter Fair

The Yuba Sutter County Fair is a four-day event the whole family is sure to enjoy. It takes place at the Fairgrounds, which is centrally located in Yuba City. You can grab a room at one of the many hotels in town or park your RV right there at the Fairgrounds to be close to all the action. There’s even a bed and breakfast within walking distance!

The Fair itself is complete with food, music, a carnival, activities for kids and special events like the tractor pull, cornhole tournament and an RV Derby. Whether you came to win or watch, you’ll have a blast wandering around the Fairgrounds and cheering for your favorite contestants.

There’s more than just competition too. Live entertainment such as Violin on Fire, the Louie Foxx magic show, Flo the Clown, Kaylee Starr, Chad Bushnell and more will be featured throughout the week. You can stop by stages, set up a lawn chair or find wandering entertainers as you walk! Check out the schedule of events to make sure you see all your favorites.

The County Fair is open to the public June 23-26. You can get your tickets at the Earlybird pricing through June 22—adults $8 and kids $5. Each day has special promotions that could get you discounted or free admission just for participating!

Fun Family Attractions

If a festival or fair weekend doesn’t fit your schedule, don’t worry! There are tons of fun family activities in the area that you can enjoy whenever it works for you.

New Leaf Llama Farm

For a truly unique experience, take the short drive up to Oregon House to visit a working llama farm! The staff will teach you about the lifestyle and habits of llamas, plus you get to pet some. It’s a fun and educational trip for the whole family!

Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox

If sports are more your speed, you can head to neighboring Marysville and catch a Gold Sox game. Enjoy some peanuts and cracker jacks while you cheer on the Sox and soak up some summer weather.
