Sneak In One More Trip This Summer
by Leah Champagne
Summer might be winding down but there’s still lots to do in Yuba Sutter! So before you start settling into your fall routine, getting your kids ready for school or preparing for your next big project at work, treat yourself to one last relaxing vacation to end the summer season right.
August is the perfect time to explore Yuba Sutter because there are fairs, festivals and fun activities the whole family can enjoy. Let’s take a look at our top three August attractions.
Visit the Mountain Fair

Brownsville hosts this annual event to showcase local craftsmen and “to celebrate our rugged mountain individualism.” Tucked in the foothills, this fair is everything you’d hope for in a woodsy, outdoor weekend.
There will be great food and live music throughout the fair, including a few unique events. The program of events includes:
- Kid’s carnival
- Rib cookoff
- Chili cookoff
- Animal shows
- Saw races
- Corn hole tournament
The Mountain Fair will be August 20-21 at the Sutter North Medical Center in Brownsville. Adult tickets are $10 and children’s tickets are $5.
Brews, Blues & BBQ

Need we say more? This annual event is in the heart of Yuba City and makes a great adult evening for those who want an out-of-the-box dinner date.
Hosted by and supporting the local Kiwanis Club, Brews, Blues & BBQ is an all you can drink event featuring local brews, ciders and ales. Tickets are $60 and include a beer cup to reuse throughout the night, a BBQ or pizza dinner (cooked on site) and access to live music and entertainment.
So if you’re into good times, great food and bopping bands, plan to stop by the festival. It’s on August 27th from 4-8 p.m. at the Yuba City Fairgrounds.
Fresh Farm Stands

To burn off all those brews and delicious food, you can spend some time recovering at local farm stands. Whether you pop over after the Mountain Fair or before the Brews festivities, there are plenty of quaint shops that can give you a taste of local culinary talent.
If you want something sweet and healthy, check out Bock’s Fruit Stand in Marysville for fresh, ripe fruits. For more conventional confectionaries, you can visit Stephen’s Farmhouse in Yuba City. Known for its pies, cookies and sweet treats, Stephen’s also offers canned fruits, jams, jellies and gift baskets!
These are just a couple of the great farm stand options in Yuba Sutter. There’s also Calolea Olive Oil, Filaki Farms and Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm if you want to venture out or do a tour of local produce.
